Ohio University-Main Campus, established in 1804, is a public research institution located in Athens, Ohio, approximately 75 miles southeast of the state capital, Columbus. Known for its picturesque setting amid rolling hills and the classic collegiate architecture of its historic College Green, Ohio University offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs, with notable strength in its College of Business and Scripps College of Communication. On-campus housing is available through numerous residence halls and learning communities, fostering a residential campus atmosphere. The university operates on a selective admissions basis, attracting a diverse student body. While Ohio University features a wide array of varsity sports, it is particularly recognized for its competitive Division I football and men's basketball teams, known as the Bobcats.
