Overview

Founded in 1764, Brown University stands among the oldest and most prestigious institutions of higher education in the United States. Located in Providence, Rhode Island, this private Ivy League university integrates a characteristic open curriculum into a highly selective academic framework, allowing students the freedom to design their unique academic pursuits. The campus is notable for its Colonial-era architecture and urban setting, situated within walking distance of downtown Providence, approximately one hour from Boston. Brown provides a vibrant residence life with most undergraduates living on campus in university housing. In the most recent statistical year 50,649 prospective students applied, and 2,562 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 1,717 enrolled in the school.  10,585 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 604 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $62,680 plus fees of $2,466.
